Since I’m a bit behind on Acey’s collage challenge (and I know there’s no rush, but I’m trying not to get any further behind), I decided to forego crayons today and move right into Challenge #9: Be the prompt you want to see.
Having noticed that the previous days’ crayon sketches are “sharing” some pigments with the facing pages (as Don had warned they might), I opted to go to a different kind of spread, using the blank page as a journaling opportunity. Then took this shot from my usual stitching chair studio, which has lighting challenges, especially on grey days …

So I decided to (finally) unbox and set up a Christmas present from my girls: a Puluz portable lightbox for photography …

and give it a try with a bright light setting (more about the Inktense background here) …

and a low light setting …

The biggest plus was getting a squarer shot using the light box overhead view … and look, no shadows!
Editing went much quicker, with just a little cropping needed. Then a little tweak on the exposure to whiten it up a bit .. .
But the setup instructions for the lightbox left a lot to be desired, so now I’m off to find an online video or two to help me take fuller advantage of its potential.
P.S. Thanks to Dee Mallon who put me onto this treasure. More to come soon, for sure!
Wow. This is a great sales pitch for a light box, thank you for showing the variations you encountered. Your play with sword and words is thought provoking. Words can be wielded like swords, but swords can be sheathed with words. Words are double-edged like swords and can cut both ways.

Dana – gotta love the community’s collective wisdom and Dee’s advice in particular on this one …

Enjoying how thoroughly you made the prompt your own! Also the mighty pen idea follows through on your Basra collage’s contextual material. Love when those connections begin to show up spontaneously and yet very much following a nearly invisible thread.

Protesting war by showing up for peace has indeed been a mostly invisible thread in my life since I first donned a black armband at age 11 … sadly, I don’t “show up” as often as I would like

When I read your WORDS of how this page came to be and what it means to you…it made so much sense to me, in the way of agreement! More free and colorful!

Now that you say that I realize how much this echoes the hope-filled “peace, love and tie-dye” of my life’s times

I’m so glad you got the light box. It hadn’t occurred to me to use it for collage. If you devise a work around to cut down on glare, let me know.
