Making and doing

The Looking Up patches continue apace … here are the first three weeks in February, along with my new 2022 calendar from Saskia

Don’s been getting the back garden ready for spring and beginning to put up some of the assemblage yard art from the Hill Country house (note: this is a panoramic image which is why everything looks bowed … the lot is actually about 65’ across) …

Parker helped create a new piece (click to see full images) ..

We also did some doodling and drawing together, inspired by a class recommended by Deb G. P took hers home, but here’s one of mine (with more to come) …

Meanwhile, Jace was busy in St Louis doing his own doodling in a Mo Willem’s book we sent him for Valentine’s Day …

And “poof” … there went February (well, almost).

Where did January go?

Goodness, that went fast (click for full images) …

Fortunately, there were balmy days when I could sit out on the back porch and dry my hair in the sun, with companionship no less …

although those days were followed in short order by this year’s version of last year’s February Freeze …

The good news is I’m in the home stretch with E’s coverlet, which has also served to keep my legs warm …

And I’m really psyched about continuing my Looking Up patches now that I have these blue sky and gray day linen beauties from Malka at Stitch in Dye (who lives just up the road in Austin, although we’ve never met due to Covid) …

My photo doesn’t do her cloth justice so please go take a peek at her shop. I confess I can never resist her sample packs of linen and cotton …

And wait, what? She has a blog?! Who knew?

“he’s free”

Looking Up took on new meaning this week as the moon waxed full. Our dear friend Mo has often written “fly free” for those who have departed this earth. Now we join with her in bidding farewell to Rod, known to us all as Old Man Crow.

And so, as this project continues and the months go by, especially when each full moon rises, I will continue to hold them in my thoughts … as will so many others in this community of kindred spirits.

January 14-16 … a beautiful dawn … a way to patch the wind … frost glittering in a tree …

plus the “windy much?” video …

and photos that inspired the patches …

January 17-19 … the full moon rising over rooftops … the waning moon setting … and a pre-dawn cloudy sky backlit by the moon …

with a successful moonrise photo on the left … no photo to be had for the moonset … and a less-than-satisfying photo of the pre-dawn cloudy sky on the right …

So I zoomed in on the second image and checked to see if any of the filters would improve the image to match what I had seen …

Obviously the camera and I had a significantly different view of the sky … though it does make me wonder what created that image out of the pixels.
