Shirt tales

I love mending. So when Don popped a button off the cuff of this 20+ year old shirt, I happily reinforced the hole that resulted, and then reinforced the other cuff button to prevent future breakthroughs …

While I was at it, I also tackled what I had long wanted to do: removing the collar of the shirt and turning it so the ragged, yellowed side would be hidden and the like-new side would be visible …

I also did a bit of design mending on a new-ish pajama top with plackets that had an annoying tendency to not sit well …

It doesn’t take much to make me happy.

Home again

Last week we had the third annual Girls’ Weekend in St Louis to celebrate Logan’s 19th birthday. This time I invited Don to crash the party so we could host a family dinner at 801-FISH …

There also might have been some shopping and beverages along the way …

And then PopPop and I got to stay for the rest of the week to hang out with Jackson and Jace …

I even got in a little bit of stitching … two Glennis moon cabins, courthouse steps style …

Now I can’t wait to go back this spring to help the boys break in their new pool! If we’re lucky, we’ll get to fly out of the Infinity Gate at the Austin Airport again …

But as Dorothy once said, in the end there’s no place like home.

Back in my happy place

I’m on my sixth or seventh skein of Deb’s threads, happily stitching my way across a sea of hope …

And wow, that one patch of Deb’s dyed damask makes me think of Hazel’s sailing ships … imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, even when unintentional.

We’ve actually been away … an overnight trip to the little town of Brenham

We stayed at the Main Street House

wandered around the historic district

had a great dinner at Las Americas

and wished some other intriguing places had been open when we wandered by …

Sadly, the new normal in Bed & Breakfast land appears to be serve-yourself breakfast … a change from the toothsome offerings served at a common table in pre-Covid days.

Still, it was good to be venturing out in the world again … and then return home to blue skies and new leaves pushing old leaves off the live oak trees …

a sure sign of spring!
