Scrap happy

I had so so many bits and pieces of cloth leftover from the Albers triads and painting log cabins … so I’ve been piecing pairs, then combining them into strips, and stitching the strips into blocks …

Most of the patches are whipped together with two strands of black DMC floss, for unity …

The blocks ended up being around 8” or so … but I’m not measuring at this point. Eventually they’ll be pieced together into 54” strips and added to the table cloth.

In other news, a wren family has moved into the bird house that Don and the kiddos made …

And Don’s garden is thriving in our above-average spring rainfall …

  1. Liz hello … my goodness your blocks look wonderful. The colors brought together with the black look’s great. But honestly what really caught my eye beside all that green accented with eye catching art is all the pots of herbs. Here we’re still at least a few weeks away from even planting herbs although my chives have come in and are added to salads soups .. well anything and everything. I just love being able to add fresh basil thyme parsley .. man oh man I cannot wait.
The little ones must be so delighted seeing a Wren moving in to the home they built. Love it!!

    2. As for the gardening weather, it’s true that we get a huge jump on early gardening … the downside is that we are already hitting temps in the 90s and our tomatoes probably won’t make it much past June

  2. The kids must be thrilled to know that they have provided a home for a bird family… what a grand project..

Now, be still my heart; I could live in Don’s garden, bedecked with your stunning cloth scraps. Just consider me your garden witch…people often speak of forest bathing, well I could dive in and bathe on your green lawn, something not at all seen here in New Mexico. How wonderful to see all that is growing in your garden.. Equally wonderful to see how you grow color with the placement of your scraps:

artistry in motion from both of you.

    1. witch or sprite, either way you’d be so very welcome to our little corner of green …

of course, you’ve lived in Texas so you know most of it will all turn dormant brown by mid-summer, but for now the plants are downright exuberant

  3. What a lush garden!!! It is so welcoming, for not only Don’s hard work with the plantings, but his art as well. Just grand!

The birdhouse project must have been so wonderful for this children…all of the way, full circle. How exciting.

You scrappy sewing project is so fine. The accent of the black threads to the great colors will be a beautiful addition to the tablecloth…which today I pictured as a picnic blanket on the green, green grass 🙂 Talk about full circle!

  4. LA – beautiful work with the scraps; what joy in the faces of the kiddos – great grandi and what a reward to have the wren family; and Don’s garden is looking exceptional – life is good. Go well. B

  5. The patches are going to be a stunning addition to the tablecloth, and the garden is such an oasis and retreat. My brother sent a photo today of a possum nesting in a box we made for them and the absolute joy I felt is how I imagine the young ones feel realising they have created shelter for a family of birds. SUCH joy!

  8. I love the colorful cloth and like the comment above about how you “grow color” with your craft.

And beautiful lawn…a lot neater than ours which is a work in progress…

I like that the wrens moved into the new housing and hope you all get to see the youngsters.

    What a wonderful Spring!

    1. I love the idea of “growing color” … for sure walking through the Wildflower Center is an ongoing inspiration

as for the lawn, I’m guessing Don will eventually cover it over with native plants, which is absolutely fine with me!
