As I arranged the patches into chronological order for the first seven months of 2021, it occurred to me that I could cut them in half …

So I did. Then seamed them together in such a way that half are upside down and half are right side up, because that’s what came into my head …

And while I stitched the long seams, I thought about our recent trip to New Mexico. So many pictures and so much to tell. Which made me think I’ll probably want to make patches about those golden days … maybe even decide to complete all of Remember 2021 rather than just part of it. We’ll see. For now, it has become a good size cloth for putting over the back of a chair.

  1. I have been paying attention to this project of yours and I like the solutions you have come up with so far. Perhaps the black and white for the beginning and then the end? I began decorating the calendar blocks of the paper desk top calendar when I saw your cloth project. I often wonder what I will do with all 12 when the year ends. But I can’t see myself stopping. right now I have a green jungle of scrap papers and a white dog- keeping me company on the calendar. thank you for the idea.

  2. HI L – so much work and so much thinking going into the remember 2021. So difficult to keep things like this going with family and other projects and activities; and always hard to catch up – both in finding the time and putting other things aside. So we need to let them become what they become when they are ready. Thanks for sharing your art journey. Go well. B

Nancy – I admit I’m a bit leery about juggling three blogs (and dare I admit there’s yet another private blog of family photos which has been untouched for years?), but it felt right to let “I’m going to Texas” be about family and process, while letting “art … fully told” be about “finished” art … hopefully so our kids can makes sense of the things we valued someday …

      1. if it does get to be too much, could you not add it as a page up top here? I understand being ‘leery’ (I like that word – it sounds just like what it means). I think your family will appreciate knowing the stories, wherever they are.

        1. I did start to write down some of the stories on this blog a few years ago, but it felt too hypercomplexificated, so I stopped … so far this feels easier

    1. ha … well the original Remember 2016 cloth has ended up sideways, so reading the patches is sort of like turning your head to read book spines on a shelf … so when I decided to cut the 2021 months in half, it made sense to have the middle patches connect, “rounding the bend” so to speak (this is a “so … so … so …” explanation)

      which is to say, this is probably about as clear as mud, but I’m hoping it will all make more sense once it is put together

  5. How to organize…always a good question. 🙂 I’ve been thinking about creating a catalogue of things in my house…family things, collected things. Just not sure how or where or what I would do with it.

  6. Another beautiful colorful gathering! Sometimes it’s hard to choose when there are so many good possibilities. Your family will be grateful for every scrap of story that you’ve gathered, I’m sure. Off to see your new place…
