Yesterday I made the first of the nine-patches planned for E’s coverlet …

then dug out some unused patches from past projects to get a sense of how the nine-patches will look next to the strips of cloth I stitched together the day before …

That in turn led me to wonder what to put into the triangular area between the strips and the half-log-cabin blocks. Fortunately, I have lots and lots of unused patches, so I mocked up several variations and made monotone images to get a sense of how that might go (click to see full images) …

How it might go, my favorite moments…

laying down all those patches also go me thinking about process … how I’m going to put in all together … and that will very likely influence the choice (or reveal a new one)

Love how the black and white lets you see the space so well – and I have quick reactions to the ones I like and don’t like so much by not being distracted by the colours. Wonder if the colours then add another dimension that could change my mind? Probably!

LA – design options???? I’m afraid I’m a bit of a linear and symmetrical person – I quite liked the linear mock up in the post on 3 Nov; and the one one the right has lovely open flowing motion. Not helpful I’m sure!!!! Montotone mock up is very useful. Go well. Barry

well, the good news is, as much as I try for “wonky” it almost always ends up more linear and symmetrical than I had hoped

it’s funny … my mom got into quilting in her 60s and 70s, something I thought I’d “never” do … never say never, right?
and thank you again for your gifted cloth, which I’ve been using to supplement the baby clothes

it is fun, but now I’ve got to set my mind to making lots of components to play with … and after that, who knows what new configurations there might be
