How to remember

January 2, 2021 – Children’s Hospital, St Louis

I’m just now remembering how I used to post each Remember 2016 patch at the beginning of each post … and then tell the story behind it.

So this, then. Not the patch I wanted to make for the second day of the new year. But first, the happy ending …

Jackson recovering from his appendectomy. And while he’s definitely still feeling the after-effects, I suspect the hardest part will be “no sports for four weeks.”

In the interest of J’s future self, I won’t post the pre-surgery pictures taken by his nursing student mom, who heroically drove him through snow and ice to Children’s Hospital in St Louis …

while his dad had the equally hard duty of staying home with little brother Jace. Not that Jace was hard, but not being at the hospital was surely hard.

And we, the rest of the fam, hung on every texted update … thankful for technology that kept us informed through both the bad and, ultimately, the good news.

So we have been warned … 2021 will not magically become the anti-2020. All the more reason to take note each day of that which we need to remember.

To be thankful in all things.

  2. Oh man Liz! So grateful all is well now, on this end of things. This is sure to become a family story told and retold over the years. I remember how it hurt to laugh after my appendectomy! May he instead smile his way along as he heals.

    1. Of course, it had to snow again today and the hill behind their house is the neighborhood go-to spot for sledding … fortunately (?!) he’s not feeling much like running around quite yet

On the bright side, he’ll certainly be cut lots of slack when it comes to playing with his new games
