Back in the day –before the word “base” was abased by the current occupant of the White House (I refuse to use either his name or his title)– I learned about making bases at Spirit Cloth.
At the time, I couldn’t imagine going beyond the piecing, but now I do see where the base is but a background for story. So I am finally back to the bed cloth, creating the base for the far right/west edge …

which will become midnight …

and then gradually move left into evening and sunset before emerging into the light of day in the middle of the cloth …

I’m stitching the strips of thrifted linen cloth with a combination backstitch followed by two running stitches …

something I dubbed the Texas Two-Step for the lovely marks it leaves on the B-side …

And so it goes …

The Texas two-step….good one! I love the dark of night on the edge and look forward to the gradations of day encroaching.

love the vertical strips of sky colours over your horizontal in the sea of hope!

Those verticals will become horizontals when the cloth hangs over the side of the bed … but the intersection of the two at the corner should be interesting … pillars of sky rising from the sea like a prayer

It does look like teeny tiny foot steps! Flow on….

hmmmm … that gives me an idea … if I stitch in circles ‘twould be even more like the trace of steps in a Texas dance hall

Hi LA – way too complex for me – but what thought you have put into this work – whoever uses it will find so much positive energy in it. Go well. B
