Green goodness

May 14, 2021 – Almost ripe
May 16, 2021 – Curly leaf love
May 18, 2021 – Summer squash fav
May 19, 2021 – Less is more

The garden is beginning to make for some awesome eating. The ripening tomato ended up in a homemade pasta that was out of this world …

And the curly leaf parsley, which I prefer to Italian flat leaf, got me looking closer and realizing that the tips are composed of three trios of leaflets (aka nine), better seen from the underside …

For those of you who are not huge fans of zucchini and crookneck, may I humbly suggest pattypan as an alternative, which is as much fun to eat as it is to stitch …

And saving the best for last, we planted small “burpless” cucumbers (Muncher variety), that are the best I’ve ever eaten …

I think Parker would agree …

Ending on a humorous note, please know that the artichoke wasn’t really as big as P’s head. Its exaggerated size is due to the keystone adjustment I made to square things up a bit …

which is also what most likely explains the bizarre photo of the Bidens and the Carters that recently made the rounds in the media.

Rooted-ness

May 3, 2021 – Meg’s yard
May 17, 2021 – Electric tooth …

The grass in Meg’s yard is separated from the landscape beds by a steel barrier. The grass laughs.

After all, there are lovely drip hoses in those landscape beds … just what grass loves. So it creeps under the steel, cozies up to the underground hose and then sends out runners … lots and lots of runners.

No pictures, cuz they’re kinda hard to take with gardening gloves on, but I’m pretty sure you can imagine what it’s like.

On the other hand, I do hope you have no personal experience with the kind of electrifying tooth pain that requires a root canal procedure.

Unfortunately, Don did … worse, it happened while he was in St Louis. So his trip was cut short by two days and he spent Monday at the dentist’s office, followed by the endodontist, who fit him in to the schedule.

With thanks to Deb Lacativa for cloth and threads that, sadly, were a perfect match for the memory …

P.S. I’m thinking this Instagram picture is a perfect match, too …

And so, Parker

May 12, 2021 – Puzzling
May 13, 2021 – It depends which end is up

Don flew up to St. Louis last Tuesday, leaving me to enjoy a solo sojourn to the reopened Austin Public Library where I picked up a reserve book, which included Maura Ambrose, with whom I took a dye workshop back in 2014 …

Then on to Barnes & Noble to pick up a Mother’s Day gift from Meg, which has a great opening …

And after perusing the $5 sale table, I picked up a puzzle for my play date with Parker on Thursday …

While I’m usually not a huge fan of media tie-ins per se, I do appreciate how they connect kids with classic playthings: puzzles, games, books, and imaginary play … which is to say, storytelling. And besides, $5 … how could I resist?

Anyway, when I picked up Parker, a picture fell out of her backpack as I strapped her into the car seat …

“I love your flower!”

“That’s not a flower, Nana. That’s a mermaid” …

Well, of course it is. Silly me.
