Channeling Josef Albers

This tome arrived at Christmas …

something I requested as I thought it might help with my ongoing quest to master color combinations. Which it somewhat did, although I quickly realized that matching colors wasn’t going to happen. So I just went with gathering triads of cloth that felt inspired by the Albers squares …

then spent the past week stitching more triads until I had about 50 on hand. Yesterday I started to stitch them onto the table cloth base …

So far so good … and I’m especially pleased by the overall wonkiness since I often feel like my stitching comes out a little too “perfect.”

I’m also pleased to report that my New Year’s resolution to send text messages to our grandkids to celebrate each day on the Sandra Boynton calendar has continued apace. I especially enjoyed celebrating Popcorn Day with G …

and made a deconstructed cherry pie for Don on Pie Day …

Tart cherries from Petoskey, Michigan with pie crust crisps and vanilla Haagen Dazs

which led to some wails of anguish from those who were unable to join us for dessert 😉

Now I’m rooting for the skies to clear in time to see the rising of tonight’s …

May the it shine peace and happiness on one and all.

Ow-oooooo …

Triangulating

I often have a hard time putting colors together. So I decided to tear strips of virtually every linen I had on hand …

and then started to put colors together in triads to see what combinations appealed to me …

I’ve only just begun.

And I confess that the idea was inspired by Josef Albers’ decades-long series of paintings entitled Homage to a Square …

which are most often four colors, but I’m more at the New York Times Tiles level …

Obviously my triads are fairly random in size, so their final arrangement may be strongly influenced by that aspect. In any case, I expect they will most likely end up on the table cloth project currently residing on the back of my stitching chair …

which is gloriously sun-soaked today, even if it is still below freezing outside.

Thank goodness for small blessings.
