I did do some stitching while we were at the beach …

although an explanation of where it’s all headed will have to wait.
Meantime, I just went through my photos from our Florida sojourn and Deb Lacativa was right when she said we’d love the Gulf beaches …

The kiddos loved it, too …

Including the art supplies that we brought with us and the class they took at The Shard Shop …

Of course there was so so much food, including shrimp pasta, redfish tacos, crab cakes, tuna ceviche, shrimp and grits … not to mention amazing cakes baked by Jackson and Griffin, along with traditional peach cobbler and cookie dough indulgences … all of which was so good that I didn’t have the least inclination to stop eating in order to take pictures, except for these before-and-after shots at Grayton Seafood …

It was all capped by the end-of-week slide show put together by PopPop …

And while the time flew, the memories (and many more pictures) remain of our golden days at Grayton Beach.
P.S. I almost forgot … there’s a fascinating phenomenon at Grayton Beach caused by lakes behind the dunes that occasionally release tannins into the Gulf, tinting the water an awe-inspiring (and safe) red, which I suppose you could call pine cone tea …

how cool, the tinted water

I wish I had the presence of mind to soak some cloth in it … we’ll just have to go back some day

Liz, I am now quite happily full after reading about all of your terrific meals of seafood. Somehow food always takes better on vacation. Always a joy to see the grands enjoying themselves. You and Don are so great at making treasured memories. And oh, to have a piece of cloth to dip into the red tannin sea…

I have to confess that Don and I are truly starting to feel our age … we only went to the beach every other day and stayed for a couple of hours (compared to the all-day beach days of our younger adulthood) … it was all good as the kids are such great buds that they gleefully played together without our direct input (and it didn’t hurt that there were no rainy days to fill with non-beach activities)

Liz~ Of course I too thought of dyeing with that water! Birds of a feather, eh? Such a Summer-full time you all had! Love it and seeing the growing-like-weeds grands ❤️

the kids seem to change by the day … and we missed having Logan with us, but she was busy finishing out her summer work commitment and heading back to JMU for her junior year … they’re all blossoming, as the best weeds do

LA – love how the white fabric appears to reflect the white sand. B

ah, I hadn’t made that connection … the sand was amazing, sugar sand with hardly a dark speck to be seen … which was a good thing considering how strong the sun was, needing no help to heat up the path back to the house

It all looks glorious, especially the rainbowed red sea!

hmmm … I could’ve sworn I replied to this already
no matter … I think what I said was that the truly amazing thing was the clarity of the water … like tea

do you suppose this is what Boston Harbor looked like back in the 1770s?

stitching together bits of white cloth was just the thing to center me during the swirl of family fun in Florida … I even staked out a stitching chair!

Hey Liz!! I always enjoy living vicariously thru your summer vacation pix with the kids. And what a lovely beach. I’ve never heard of it before, but it looks delightful. And that house, oh my!! And the watercolor of the house is brilliant too. Plus the Shard Shop and what the tannins do to the water. You and Don captured everything so beautifully. As always, thanks for sharing! xoxoxox

and of course all those images of your family simply being happy and themselves all together
