I took notes …

And in a last minute flash of inspiration, I made a video (we were in our daughter’s backyard), but WordPress doesn’t like that it’s 4 minutes long. So here are screenshots of the endarkenment followed by the return of the light …

Fortunately, the Owl Cam at the Wildflower Center also caught the eclipse on video.
And our daughter went to our grandkids’ elementary school to experience the eclipse in community …

Addendum: Here’s a picture 4-year-old Ellis drew after learning our sun is a star and then going outside to view the eclipse …

Thanks for sharing the eclipse with us. We are so far out of the path, and having dark, rainy weather anyway (so springtime Northwest) that we didn’t even notice. What a cool experience.

I was determined to appreciate whatever we were able to see or hear or feel … the experience didn’t disappoint

The darkness and reflections on the pool are so eerie. I love that you took notes – such a you, Liz thing to do! Love that. Like notes for a future stitching or something 🙂
And the Owl cam…what must animal world be thinking?
And the squished up squatting positions of young children…holding their glasses on to protect their eyes. I can imagine teachers all over the country warning the young ones!
Great moment-in-time post Liz. ❤️

I love blogging … how I was able to find my recollections of past eclipses and have a place to add this latest … 15 years in and I’m so glad to have found this medium and stuck with it

I’m still feeling the good vibrations of the event … each of the three eclipses we have experienced has been different and each wonder-full in its own way

enjoy seeing your handwriting. I have to say the still shots are so intriguing and lovely, I think WordPress did us a favor!

Ironically, my daughters have far better handwriting than I do even though they were given minimal instruction in school (much to my dismay back in the day)

I also love the word endarkenment. I wish I had taken notes. I was too busy trying to get pattern photos with my colanders! They did not turn out well…And even though I knew it was going to happen, when it became like night it felt very weird.
Thanks for sharing your handwritten notes and great photos!

Thanks Betty … I suspect we’ll remember the experience regardless of how we recorded it

The photos of the darkening reflected in your photos so fit the spirit filled experience of the moment BUT what really moved me was the drawing made by Ellis…how she saw her place in the cosmos, aligned right next to the stars…

I had wondered how the teachers would handle the eclipse at the pre-school … turns out that they talked to the students about eclipses and what the children were about to see … then they took three pre-schoolers out at a time where they donned eclipse glasses (the director of the pre-school was also there and only the 4 year and 5 year old students participated) … last, they had the students draw what they experienced … what blew me away was that E’s crescent aligned with the ones I drew

we missed it altogether here in the UK so it’s nice to see some pictures. Love the word endarkment 🙂

I looked to see if the UK will be getting an eclipse in the near future … sadly no

shame! we did have one in 1999 I think. It was decidedly eerie.

Her stars! Love them!

if only she had gotten the chance to see actual stars in the sky … at least the clouds parted enough for her to see the crescent
