We were fortunate to experience a total eclipse in 2017 when we just happened to be in St Louis … but it wasn’t planned and we didn’t have the special glasses
We were much better prepared for the annular eclipse last October, which we experienced with our Austin grandkids
Two days later I was lucky enough to spot this little gem of a painting on Instagram, which I gifted to Don last Christmas …

It was painted en plein aire by local artist Gena Destri, who graciously offered to sell it to me after I sent her a DM …

And now, our third eclipse in seven years looks like it will be clouded, but we will still experience the endarkenment of the land … it should be awesome
What I love about this eclipse painting is the lightness that infuses it. I watched a segment on the coming eclipse on the CBS Sunday morning show today and one of the experts said that the first time that a person sees an eclipse, they can often become emotional and feel magic…this painting certainly holds unique magic. I’ve never seen an eclipse but my grand kids did when they were 7, in 2017. Oregon was one of the states where you could view that eclipse so their parents took them to Oregon and it was an unforgettable experience for all of them.

I agree that the eclipsed light is magical … liminal in the truest sense of the word

As in 2017, it will seem like dusk for a couple of minutes here in Chesapeake, VA. But that doesn’t stop me from having a few family and friends for an Eclipse Party. Serving: Sun chips, Moon pies, Starburst fruit chews, Milky Way bars, Orbit gum, Blue Moon beer, Capri Suns, Fireball whiskey, Oreos deconstructed and arranged to illustrate the eclipse and decorated Sun cookies made by a neighbor.

I love that word, endarkment. Ask your support of other artists.

I have to credit local songwriter Ray Wylie Hubbard with the word, which comes from an album and one of his songs entitled:
A. Enlightenment
B. Endarkenment
(Hint: There is no C)

Well I got endarkenment wrong as well as “ask”. That was supposed to be “also.” I might prefer endarkment. Did he make up the word?

I appreciated a recent IG post that read “I correct autocorrect more than autocorrect corrects me” … in any case, your comment was perfectly understandable
As for endarkenment, the OED pins its first usage in print to the 1820s … although I wouldn’t doubt that Ray Wylie came up with the word without having seen it elsewhere

Liz~ “Endarkenment” – a word not heard, yet so perfect really. Even though the focus may be on darkness, I love the light this artist captures in her painting and other work on her Instagram page. I view that as such a talent, and not easy to do (but, I’m no painter!). Her pink tree on her page reminded me of Jude’s Maggie. 🙂
Enjoy whatever view you have!

I went back to Gena’s IG and yes, this painting does bring Jude’s magnolia to mind: https://www.instagram.com/p/C4tRqRcJAQz/?igsh=MTRpaGF2N2F4ZXhxOA==

Love the eerie beauty of the painting. It will probably be too cloudy here, but I should find those glasses just in case.

The eclipse painting is a prize. I also appreciate your “showcasing” other artists. Hoping you might have clear skies tomorrow. We have several friends who have traveled from Northern California to Texas to see the eclipse. We’ll have about 37% here with good weather predicted.

We have wonderful artists in Central Texas and a gallery that does such a fine job of showcasing their work … we even commissioned a painting for Don’s 70th birthday in June, about which more to come
