It may not be apparent, but the table cloth has progressed …

So now I’m starting on the next phase, which will be log cabins based on art in our home … the theory being that if we liked pieces enough to buy them, then they must have color combinations that I particularly like. Sorta like this homage to Maxine Price’s Feeling Playful …

And yes, I am once again thwarted by not having exact color matches, but I’m going with the flow and choosing palettes that give me a similar feel.
Anyway, I’ve also taken another pass through my stash of hand dyed and thrift store sourced linens … ironed the torn strips and sorted them by colors … then put them next to my stitching chair so they’re ready to go on the next log cabin …

which will be based on this piece of art …

LiiiiiZ!! What a wonderful idea and so well executed! The ‘similar colors’ look just right (in my opinion). I hope you continue to share what you’ve created. That wood piece next to your stitching chair looks like one of the Museum quilts already! haha
Your new ideas never cease to amaze me!

For sure I’m looking around the living room and the Stickwood cabinet is definitely in the running … as is the soumak carpet that is the backdrop in so many of my photos … and yes, I’ll be sharing 😊

I was starting to worry that the cloth didn’t have a back story … or at least that the Josef Albers color explorations weren’t enough of a story … now I feel like I’m finally on track

I think the structure and inspiration of Albers tell a beautiful story, not least of all a nod to how you work.

This comment sent me into a metaphorical moment … imagining stories being told at the table … both in the cloth and by those sitting around it

Hi LA – I just love how you stitch so much history and memory into your patch pieces – even reflections of art in your house – wow. Go gently . B

I think you will never go wrong if you use art that you love as a guide to colour harmony – brilliant idea! And despite those moments of ick when they don’t quite colour match perfectly; I think of the work as siblings, not twins… enjoy!

I have to laugh … when I read your comment my first thought was “cousins … some of them are definitely more like cousins”

I always admire your vision for these projects! The colors sing with happiness.

Thank you … there are some that sing better than others so this project has been helpful in refining my sense of what colors I most enjoy working with

Matching is tough…in fact impossible on the scale you are working with. Close is good enough. I love your tablecloth and I love the fact that you are making a tablecloth.
