More dots

I’ve added blue moons to the other side of My Heart’s Compass, seen here from two different angles …

I’m also posting a little earlier than usual in order to send out a link of Joan Baez being interviewed by Stephen Colbert (note: the link has ads removed) …

  1. Thank you so very much for the Joan Baez link; this has simply made my day. And thanks for all you share. I enjoy it so much. I have one of your beautiful Imagine Peace pins. It’s one of my treasures.

  2. Liz, what a gift you have given me, this link of Joan Baez. (I do not stay up late to watch these programs.) To know that she sang in the TN airport with Justin Jones just filled my soul:

Joan Baez has always been very special to me, connecting to my heart in so many ways. My memories of her include attending a wonderful outdoor concert of hers in Sacramento, CA, in 1970, at my college. One of my most favorite gifts of all time from my sister, who called me her Joan, was one of Joan’s first books, a memoir titled Daybreak published in 1968 by The Dial Press, New York. She dedicated the book “with love, admiration and gratefulness to the men who find themselves facing imprisonment for resisting the draft.”

Many years later, I met her at an old funky wonderful restaurant, Duarte’s Tavern in Pescadero, CA where freshly caught fish, cream of asparagus and cream of green Chile soup are to die for. We had gone to celebrate one of my birthdays and she was there with a group of friends. When the waiter brought a surprise slice of cake with a candle to me and asked everyone to sing Happy Birthday, I saw Joan stand up and sing along with her companions. After the song was finished, I went to her table and thanked her and she took my hand and smiled and said “You are very welcome.”

I leave you with some words from the last chapter of her book, Daybreak: ( words of the time for they were written during the Vietnam war.)

“…Because here we are, waiting on the eve of destruction with all of the odds against any of us seeing the sun rise one day soon.

    You, Dear Reader,
    You are Amazing Grace,
    You are a Precious Jewel.

Only you and I can help the sun rise each coming morning. If we don’t, it may drench itself out in sorrow.

You- special, miraculous, unrepeatable, fragile, tender, lost, sparkling ruby, emerald jewel, rainbow splendor person. It’s up to you.

Would it embarrass you very much if I were to tell you… that I love you.”

    1. Marti!

You have, bar none, the coolest stories of anyone I know … first Jim Morrison and now Joan Baez? … how amazing!

And yes, to this day, it’s up to all of us … thank goodness for a new generation with the likes of Justin Jones

      1. i came back to make a correction: Duarte’s Tavern was known for their cream of artichoke soup, not asparagus. They grew the artichokes in their garden and their cioppino, seasonally served, and was sensational!

        1. The only thing that could possibly be better than asparagus would surely be artichoke soup! And cioppino (which I mispronounced for years upon years) … yum!
