Each time I hung Don’s painting shirts on the drying rack, I noticed they really needed mending. Not that he minded them … I did.
In truth, I had done some darning on one of them a while back, but obviously more needed to be done. So I cut away the ragged edges and pondered …

At first I considered using something with wild colors (I mean, they’re painting shirts). But when I went into the cloth closet, a recent thrift store purchase jumped out as the perfect choice …

Much better …

Last, but far from least …

which was made just before this little treasure was opened on Christmas morning …

A delightful pair!
Don’s creative solutions with all his cool finds are delightful! And of course that shirt you mended is so much fun!

we have a great “pantry” of stuff that we’ve collected over the years … I’m inspired by Anna van der Putte to do some playing myself

the two-sided cloth came from a wonderfully large shirt … needled beautifully and has such a cool woven design (I thought of Jude, for sure) … I’m sure it will make many more appearances in the future

I’ve been following her on Instagram @wijzemeisjes … her assemblages are delightful, but so too are the little boxes she constructs to house them

I learned how to turn a worn collar from my grandmother. After the second side wore out, the collar was discarded and the shirt was worn kind of mandarin looking. It was all about function back then. Pretty sure her scrubbing neck rings with a brush and lye soap contributed to collar kill.

“turning a worn collar” is a new-to-me concept … sounds like a promising solution for some of the collars that aren’t so far gone since Don isn’t a fan of the mandarin collar solution
I do remember my mom scrubbing neck rings with blue Wisk detergent and a nail brush … not to mention sitting and ironing those same shirts while watching soap operas (after we finally got a TV when I was six years old)

LA – great work on the collar; and what a great piece by Don. It seems I left my comment three times – but that was a gremlin in the system – I was trying to get back to the collared post!!!! You can delete a couple. Cheers. B

P.S. Oh ha! Just found the duplicate comments over on the art … fully told blog … easily remedied

of course, being a painting shirt, the rest of it is pretty shabby, but at least I’ll smile at the collar as I hang the shirt to dry … happy 2022!
