I thought I might stitch Ellis’ name into the blocks of her quilt, so I tested out my idea, whilst thinking of Fiona’s post about versals (even though I ended up not filling in my letter) …

and liking the result, stamped up some nine-patches (click to see full images) …

As is my wont, I started in the middle with a patch of Tina’s cloth and a strand of Deb’s thread, worked in Jude’s split backstitch …

It takes a village, y’all.
Then I stitched a couple more patches from my Inktense shibori trials …

But I saved the best for last: patches of Parker’s Inktense handiwork …

Then pieced everything together to create the top edge of E’s coverlet, which currently measures 14” x 38”…

love your letters with Deb’s magic thread!

I had an idea this morning that I should make Parker and Ellis bundles of leftover cloth from each of their coverlets … together with a book on mending, some needles, scissors and floss for “someday”

Oh I love how they worked out – the letters are beautiful! And even more I like the idea of spares and needles and hints and tips for mending, and adding to and continuing the story. Gorgeous!

now to figure out where to stash the spares so they don’t get lost …. hmmmm

Your lettering is absolutely delightful! I love the shapes and how you didn’t “close” the lines. Strong characters, but sweet and open too.

I get what you mean … I’m usually not much for things that are figurative, but the exceptions are always, well, exceptional … I’m glad you like these

LA – what gorgeous memory pieces you create; and I love the idea of keeping bundles of bits that could be gifted to them down the track to choose to do whatever they were inspired to do. Go well. B

and now you have me thinking … it doesn’t need to be kept for repairs … I could use the “kits” to teach Parker and Ellis how to stitch/mend/embellish on their coverlets someday when they’re older!
