Yet another go-round with eye issues sapped my creative energy, but my fingers felt stitchy. So I decided to do some mending on clothes Don and I had worn to shreds …

I did Don’s repairs in a fairly sedate tan-on-tan …

Tear repair
Preventive maintenance
The other side
But I got a bit more playful with my own …
because Deb makes it so easy to have fun …

even (especially) on the other side.

(((Liz))) love your mending but what’s going on with your eyes?

extreme nearsightedness coupled with age have led to retina issues for the past seven years … I have a good doc who patches me up as needed … very effective but not much fun

Oh no. I’m so sorry to read of more eye troubles! On the other hand, your mending created party pants 🙂 Take care Liz.

Beautiful mends, especially the playground of yours. Spent an hour mending K’s socks last night, not so exciting. So sorry that your eye issues continue.

Hi LA – sorry to hear you are having etc issues again – I thought that was all behind you. The mending is very creative and must be meditative. Hope eyes sort themselves out soon. B

the reality is my eyes will likely continue to have issues over time, but I’m fortunate to have a retina doctor who I trust to keep me sighted … as for the stitching, it soothed the creative itch

It is so good to have health professionals you trust with such precious stuff. Long may that last. I love fraying and frayed edges but there comes a time when mending is actually needed and thanks to you I can do some now!

thank you … I had you in mind as I mended the knee … almost wished the hole had been a bit larger (but not to the extent of cutting away more than was necessary)

Always something to mend…I suppose that includes ourselves too. Hope you continue to feel better.

The patch looks like a little bird. Is that the cotton/silk thread? Do you use a round eye needle with that?

ha … love that you see a bird … and yes, it’s two strands of the 4 strand cotton/silk, which is a joy to work with. Honestly, I have so many needles I can’t keep them straight, but I think it was a Tulip applique needle, big eye #10

Threads keep mending our paths. Old clothes are a treasure. They just feel better on. Prayers continue for your eyes. They are a precious blessing.

thanks Sue … between reading and stitching, I can’t imagine losing my eyesight

Mending clothes, mending eyes. I am so relieved to know that you have a good retinal Dr to help you. I also have retinal issues and equally have a good Dr. I have a condition known as epiretinal membrane also known as macular pucker . For the past several years, I was getting checked every six months and then for some unexplained reason, I seemed to have a bit of spontaneous improvement so now, only have to go in once a year. The pandemic delayed my yearly visit by a few months but I will soon be back on schedule. I’m someone who doesn’t like going to Drs and when I do, I come loaded with questions and info . Finding a good Dr who can handle my quirks is a blessing.
I’ve always admired the creative way you mend your clothes. I am not at all very skilled in using needle and thread …resorting to iron on sticky tape to mend small tears. Luckily we don’t seem to have a lot of wear and tear on our clothes .I remember my Mom using a wooden egg to mend my Dad’s socks, weaving needle and thread back and forth.

I’m humbled by how many things can go wrong in an aging body … and appreciative of everything that works, although that always seems to involve way too many office visits
