There is a poetic symmetry in the recent deaths of Eric Carle and Lois Ehlert …

Two of their most beloved books were authored by Bill Martin, Jr …
and both utilized collage as their preferred medium.
I considered adding words to this latest patch, then decided not … thinking the colors alone would make it recognizable.
With thanks, yet again, to Tina and Deb for their perfectly dyed cloths … and to Jude for framed thread beads.

When Deb G and you spoke of Eric and Lois yesterday, I had not remembered about Lois but still something was nagging me so I googled and found some of her books on an Amazon page. Imagine my surprise, delight and returned memory, to find that I had ordered one of her board books, Color Zoo, a Caldecott honor book on March 12, 2010 as a gift for my twin grands who would turn one yr old on May 2010..Color Zoo is one of my favorite of her books. Your patch is perfect, needs no words, the colors and shapes speak volumes…

there was a substantial EHL section in the elementary school library that I happily tended for 8 years … even so, I don’t think I ever made the connection between Lois Ehlert and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom … I just knew I wanted to buy each of her new books as they came out

LA – sad when folk who have brought so much joy to many die – at least their work and legacy remains and many more will get to enjoy their tales. Great patches to record their contribution. B

Another patch that will give a little sad-happy smile when you see it and remember it in times ahead.

I did think about switching them, as Lois Ehlert’s death preceded Eric Carle’s, but then thought to leave them in the order in which I learned of their passing … it was/is the remembering that matters
