Five years ago, I decided to mark my 60th year by stitching one patch each day and then blogging about it. The result was the cloth Remember 2016 …

I learned so much in the making and now, five years on, I’m ready to do it again. But differently.
Instead of sticking to a rigid schedule of daily patching and posting, I’m going to take the time to reflect on each day before memorializing it in stitch. And so, to commemorate the first day of this year of expectation, I stitched a patch of hope …

It is 1 3/4″ high, as the patches in Remember 2016 all were. But as is my wont, I’ll be making the patch widths to fit the days, however they may go.
I also plan to be more mindful, “a quiet attention to detail” as noted by Hannah Lamb in one of my Christmas gifts …

And always I will be following the making of Kindred Spirits, like Hazel whose glue stitches are like tiny silken rivets. Using Deb’s threads, which makes each stitch feel painterly. Listening to Jude as she leads the way.
All-ways.
You’re going to end up with another amazing quilt.

And I will try to figure out these silly internet issues, also focusing on one loose patch a day… thank you for hope.

So frustrating … I can’t see images on Hazel’s blog today … Nancy can’t see the videos on one of my recent posts … I got an email from Angie saying she can’t comment … problems everywhere … and still we persist!

Hi LA – what a beautiful project to take on – and hope is a grand word to start with. May your stitches send out ripples of goodness to all of us in the year ahead; and may the process bring calm, joy and peace in 2021 and beyond. B

Hi LIz. It’s great to make project-plans, isn’t it? And yes, Hope…it’s a powerful feeling.
Ha, I’ve just finished reading Hannah’s book, it’s a goodie! ‘Slow Stitch’ by Claire Wellesley-Smith is another that I enjoy reading over and over, as is Mandy Pattullo’s book, ‘Textiles Transformed’.

thanks for the reminder … I’ll have to pull Slow Stitch out for another read … haven’t gotten Textiles Transformed, so I’ll add it to my wish list (always handy to have some ideas when birthdays and holidays roll around)

A daily project is a thing of beauty. You actually inspired one for me with your list…Not so much a specific project, but about the use of time…
