I needed to listen to these words from Trevor Noah today because of the dismay I have been feeling about the rioting, fire setting, destruction, shootings of protestors and officers, cars and trucks running down citizens, that is occurring all over our country, brought home to me this weekend by the protests in Albuquerque.
We can hold vigils, we can march in solidarity, we can perform rituals of remembrance and prayer but we can never know how it is to go through life, targeted because of the color of our skin…the old saying walk a mile in our shoes, well we can’t do that, not really. What we can do is to try to open our hearts, open our eyes and most of all, exercise our rights as citizens to VOTE.
From Barack Obama today: “So the bottom line is this: if we want to bring about real change, then the choice isn’t between protest and politics. We have to do both. We have to mobilize to raise awareness, and we have to organize and cast our ballots to make sure that we elect candidates who will act on reform.”
This is true, but I’m beginning to think it goes beyond that … it is the oppression of many “others” … people of color, immigrants, those who practice other religions (or no religion), the poor, women, our very earth … the list is so very long, with some definitely far more oppressed than others. Just imagine if all the “others” joined together as one …

Thank you for the Trevor Noah video and your daughter’s comments. The weight of centuries of black oppression is choking the life of our country.
