How I needed to do laundry. But I really wanted to stitch.
How I needed to go to the grocery store … twice, because the first store didn’t have everything on my list. But I really just wanted to stitch.
How I needed to make lunch, and cut up the melon and pineapple and bananas that I got at the store. But I really, truly wanted to stitch.
Because I’ve been thinking about Georgia and New Mexico. And feeling a little guilty because it didn’t take me a whole day to get groceries in Espanola as Georgia once did. Really, I should be able to find the time to stitch.
But oh do I ever envy her the drives she made between Ghost Ranch and Abiquiu and Espanola. Where the rocks rear up out of the land into a crystal blue sky, each bend in the road more incredible than the last …
I just wanted to stitch a memory of being in that magical place, of the colors and angles …
But no, not that exactly. More like this maybe …
Paper piecing on freezer paper, sketched in pencil on a piece 18” x 18” … we’ll see how it goes … if and when I can get to it.
But first I need to hang the wash … then I need to make the pickles, pasta salad, and chicken salad for dinner tonight.
When really, I mean it … I just want to stitch 😉

oh, I can’t wait to see what you come up with! I too love that part of the country…so dramatic! I have so many photos from our trips through NM and UT in 2009/10. I now catch my breath when I see this landscape on the many Nature type shows we watch. Have fun!

Well, my colors aren’t “accurate” but they capture how I feel, so that’s what I’m going with … anyhoo, pickles are done, wash is hung, but I just realized I need to shower … ha!

I got the laundry done (mostly), the dishes done (mostly), and went to the grocery store and farmer’s market this weekend. The rest I gave up on…and instead did some sewing, a little dyeing, reading and napping. 🙂

Well, I must confess that I did get a little eye-rest in while I was waiting on the second load of laundry to get done … and happily, the farmer’s market was also on my list … and now I’ve got a clear path to stitching tomorrow (oh the joys of retired living)

I really think that quote is quite special. It describes so eloquently what so many of us feel and try to work our way through. I really think it is quite impactful. Your lists sound a lot like mine and here I am on Monday afternoon after a very chore-filled day trying to do one or two more at the computer before I head to the sewing room! I also loved seeing how your mind saw the painting and abstracted it out into q variety of fabrics. So lovely to see the direct response in another form…

I’m always questioning what to do first! I hate it. I used to be able to finish housework in the am and sew or paint in the afternoon and evening. Now if I finish my chores I’m too tired to do the things I love
So on my tombstone- she had a clean house instead of an artist.

Dang this is cool Liz, can’t wait to see the finished product. Georgia has always been my most favorite artist, Diego Rivera my second, maybe because their styles have some similarities. But I’ve never been to her part of New Mexico. Have been to Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Taos. Taos being my favorite. I’ve always told my students that if you ever want to find me when I’m a really old lady, that’s where I will be living. Ha!

Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch aren’t all that far from Taos, but are so different … we are longing to go back, especially so we can stop at El Farolito in El Rito for the most unique dining experience one can ever imagine
