As to the second patch, I’ve had maps on my mind of late and had asked my brother and sister-in-law if they could send a photo of a Shelter Island map made by my grandfather. They kindly sent not one, but two printed copies of this Shelter Island drawing from 1966, when I was 10 …
As an added bonus, they also sent this cartoon/map of the Catskills drawn by my grandfather in 1939, when my mom was 8 …
Serendipitously, I just got a copy of the book You Are Here after reading about it on Nancy’s blog …
which has an equally tongue-in-cheek map, also penned in 1939, as noted in Deb G’s blog post about the same book …

my grandfather was a great watercolorist, much influenced by Andrew Wyeth … he used to show his paintings in the annual Shelter Island art show and could have sold them many times over for all that he was encouraged to sell them … but he preferred gifting them and never to my knowledge sold a one

Catching up on the last few posts- experiencing a spectrum of emotions… The church and it’s steeple, remembering the heart wrenching experience of working on Dee’s quilt. The delight of a child’s Knowing the moon. Enjoyment of family time, beauty in art and all of the community connections. You have a wonderful way of holding everyday joy and ease in your sharing.

Still working my way through this book, loving so much about it. One of my favorites so far is “Road to Success” on page 49. And for better or worse, there is a full moon on my birthday this year!
